King's Wark Pub

The Kings Wark is the closest that Edinburgh really gets to an all out gastro pub experience though its main competition in that class can also be found nearby on the waterside stretch known as the Shore.Chef Mike is a devotee of Fergus Henderson at St John of London and the menu will often feature slightly more adventurous dishes alongside more familiar staples. he and wife Lesley run a tight ship with bar staff choosing (unusually in the UK) to stay put and buying into the service ethic. Meat is treated with reverence but the fish on the menu is equally well interpreted. The food is confident and competent rather than dressed up to attract Michelin approval but for high quality pub grub, good beer and a convivial atmosphere, the Kings Wark is hard to beat.
